YOUR B&B

 Welcome to the Oxford Inn!

Oxford Inn Bed and Breakfast Stratford Ontario, B&BBuilt in 1906 as the home of a local judge, the property was converted in the 1970s into a bed & breakfast by the name of “Anything Goes.” In the 1980s, it was purchased and renamed “The Artful Lodger” – a  name that was especially fitting since this proprietor adorned the walls with her original paintings. Since then, the B&B operated continuously under that name, through two further changes in ownership, making it one of Stratford’s longest-running owner-operated accommodations. Ample parking on site and an enjoyable, short walk through scenic Stratford to all of the theatres guarantees your stay will be convenient, comfortable, and pleasant.

The Artful Lodger was purchased in 2013 by its current proprietor, Grant Brown – a recovering academic and barrister. The living room / dining room area was stripped down to bare walls and completely renovated prior to the 2013 season. Further work to the foyer, staircase, and second-floor hallway was completed for the commencement of the 2014 season. The Bodleian Suite and sunroom were rebuilt for the 2015 season, as well as some up-grades to each of the bedrooms. Improvements in 2016 were mostly to the owner’s quarters, but major renovations are being completed for the 2017 season. These include a new single-car garage (allowing safe storage of guest bikes), a spacious meeting room in the attic with TV, bar, WC, and reading nooks (especially useful for longer stays!), and a make-0ver of the Radcliffe Camera.  I am striving for a classical, age-appropriate décor, with an Oxford theme. (“Dr. Grant” read philosophy at Oxford University in the 1980s, obtaining a DPhil. Pictures of the stunning architecture of Oxford adorn the walls of the newly branded Oxford Inn.) Pictures on this website do not reflect all of the improvements that have been made recently, but hopefully that will be rectified in due course…

Oxford Inn features central air conditioning, memory-foam mattress toppers, and new quilts for your comfort. An industrial-strength water softener provides endless soft water and a R/O water filtration system provides the purest possible drinking water. With the training I received from my regular guests over the past four seasons, I am now what we call in the trade a “seasoned pro”!

Breakfast

Grant - Front Room I am proud to offer a three-course “gourmet” breakfast, typically including a savoury amuse bouche, a seasonal fruit medley (that may contain bananas, strawberries, passion fruit, raspberries, blueberries, honeydew melon, pineapple, peaches, and pears), and the standard bacon-and-eggs any style. Breakfasts also feature home-made sourdough rye bread toast, home-made granola, and at times other baked goods or home-made hash browns. Of course, orange juice and coffee are always available. Some of my guests call this the “Oxford Bed & Brunch”… but for those with lighter breakfast palette, we can provide cereal, quick oats, and other options upon request. Philosophical chat comes free with breakfast!

Note: I cater to gluten-free, meat-free, and dairy-free diets – but please advise me of any dietary requirements or preferences at the time of booking.

Please peruse the website and contact me if you have further questions. I look forward to seeing you soon.
